The Hackettstown High School band community was deeply saddened at the recent loss of former band member, Michael Billington, who passed away following a battle with cancer on April 12th. The HHS Marching Band and instrumental program played an important role in Michael's life while at HHS, and he went on to play in the pep band while a student at Seton Hall. All of us associated with the Tiger Band program wish the Billington family our deepest sympathy at this difficult time.
But while Michael may be gone in life, his excitement for life and his love of music will never be forgotten. To honor his memory, the HHS Band Boosters voted unanimously at their April meeting, to establish the Michael Billington Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship which will be given yearly to a HHS Senior Band member who has shown leadership skills and a genuine concern for their fellow band members. The scholarship recipient will be selected by the band director and the Band Booster officers.
Complete details surrounding the scholarship are still being finalized, but we hope to give out the first scholarship at this year's HHS Awards Night. In the meantime, if you would like to make a contribution to help establish this special scholarship, please send a check with "Michael Billington Scholarship" on the memo line to...
