The philosophy of the Hackettstown High School TIGER Marching Band is to produce students who are well educated in all areas of music.  The band is a volunteer organization made up of instrumentalists and color guard, and all musicians in the HHS Instrumental Music Department are encouraged to participate; although ANY HHS student is permitted to participate and you do not have to be a member of any other HHS instrumental music band to play.

Hi, I'm Ashley, and I'll be a sophomore next fall.  I have always liked being in band, but I was unsure if I should take it seriously.  This year the band program at HHS has led me to play a new instrument and to get better at my main instrument.  In reality, band is not only about instruments and music.  Throughout the bands this year I was able to meet amazing people and have new experiences with friends that I would never have met if it wasn't for band.  With the help of a great director, teachers, and instructors, I feel that I made progress in more than just music.  I can’t wait for bands next year!  -- Ashley,

My name is Anna, I will be a junior next fall, and this is my fourth year being involved in the music department at HHS.  Marching Band is a great way to meet people and have a whole bunch of friends before you set foot in the door on your first day of school.  While Marching Band takes work, it is also a blast!  We go away for band camp and go canoeing (mine flipped), have water balloon fights, and play games.  As well as marching band, I am in pep band, jazz band, symphonic band (band geek… I know, I know).  The instrumental program at the high school is awesome.  Can’t play an instrument, no problem!  I didn't play saxophone until my first year at HHS!  Mr. Ferranti is a great teacher and, even though the band won’t admit it, really knows his stuff. Basically, what more can I say, it's friends, it's family, it's fun!!!

The band gives students the opportunity to participate in an activity where each member is part of the team and contributes at the same time.  Each member is expected to do his or her part to help the ensemble strive for excellence as part of the team.

As it takes a lot of practice to make the football team good, so it does the marching band.  Our band kids work hard to perfect their fall show, their season starting in the early summer and ending during mid to late November.  While the year's schedule varies from year to year, there are generally several summer practices along with a week long BAND CAMP in August, and once the school year begins, the band rehearses together every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school.  In addition to these weekly ensemble practices, the color guard, percussion line, and the various sectionals will generally practice at least once each week.

The band will usually perform a halftime show at all home football games and a pre-game show at most away games (generally on Friday nights), and participate in competitions against other high school bands on various Saturday's and Sunday's during the fall.

The band is also a fixture in the Hackettstown Memorial Day Parade and often participates in other regional events when possible.

The HHS Band Boosters will hold numerous fundraisers throughout the year to assist band members in subsidizing band camp and their various band fees.  Click on the FUNDRAISING link at the top of this page to be connected to the FUNDRAISING page for more details.

Besides HHS students, 8th graders from Hackettstown Middle School are also welcome to join the band.  Those interested in participating in the HHS Marching Band should contact the Band Director, Mr. Jesse Argenziano, at  jargenziano@hackettstown.org  or 908-852-8150.

2007 MARCHING BAND HANDBOOK (WORD)

We realize that between band camp, competitions, and other trips, the cost of playing, "performing", in the Tiger Marching Band might sometimes appear daunting to our band members and their parents.  However, the HHS Band Boosters provide numerous fundraising activities throughout the year to help lessen the biteout of your, your parent's, wallet.  Please refer to our  FUNDRAISING page to review those opportunities and to see what current fundraisers are being run.

We are in immediate need of band parents, specifically marching band parents, to assist with the following 2009-10 marching band jobs.  Please contact Bill Engleking at 852-4584 if you can help us out.  The band members, staff, director, and boosters greatly appreciate your assistance and cooperation!

Hospitality Table Coordinator

A couple of parents are needed to coordinate  baked goods donations, cider and water, to be served to visiting bands, and usually our own band too, following halftime at all HHS home football games.

Dinners Coordinator

Dinner is offered to MB members in between practice and games on Fridays during football season, and in between practice and prior to leaving for competitions, and we need one or more parents to assist with preparing, handing out, and collecting order forms and placing orders with local restaurants then delivering them to the kids following practice on game nights and/or prior to departing for competitions.  Dinner order forms are passed out following Monday practices, sent out via email, and posted on this page of the website, then are returned at practice on Wednesdays.

Tiger Gram Sales-Numerous parents are needed to sell Tiger Grams at all home games (2 or 3 for each game).

Uniform Help-We are in immediate need of a couple of people to coordinate handing out uniforms upon completion of band camp!

Several sewing enthusiasts are also needed to make minor sewing repairs on uniforms, marching band and stage bands, as needed.

U Haul Drivers- One or more drivers are needed to pick up a rental truck, drive it to the band room to be loaded, drive it to away games and competitions, then return it to the rental facility. Pick-up of the truck by 4pm on Fridays for away games and competitions, and return on Saturday or Sunday following its use will be needed.
